I do not know about you, but I grew up watching police shows.
In the 1950s it was Highway Patrol and Peter Gunn.
In the 1960s it was Dragnet and the Untouchables (technically it started in 1959 but it mostly went into the 60s, so I’ll count it as a 60s show).
In the 1970s it was Adam-12, SWAT and Barney Miller.
Then in the 1980s it was Hill Street Blues and Police Squad.
In the 1990s it was Homicide, life on the street.
In the 2000s it was The Wire
